DAVYROE RECOMMENDS: Tracks of the Week

Another Monday, another edition of TOOLS DOWN: Tracks of the Week.

This time around, we had the pleasure of chatting with none other than DavyRoe—a UK-born, Newcastle (NSW)-based producer and disc jockey making serious noise in the scene.

“I’ve been lucky enough to release music on labels like Transition Records (UK/AUS), TNT Records (UK/AUS), Reboot (IRE), and OBSCUUR (GER),” he tells us—some of those tracks even finding their way into the sets of names like (but not limited to) Skin on Skin, Trym, Malugi, Ollie Lishman, La La, and Otta.

When we asked about his sound, he put it simply: it's “always been evolving.” But if there’s one thread that runs through it all, it’s his pull toward high energy, 90s-inspired music.
“This year,” he adds, “I’m focusing on channeling in on my piano-led tracks.”

Now, without further ado—let’s get to the good stuff. Below are Davy’s handpicked Tracks of the Week, with the full playlist living eternally at the end of this post.

TRACK #1:

OG Anthem - Tisney Crew Radio Edit

“This track has been in my rotation the day it was released. I find the tune to be so powerful and the repeating lead sound is so crazy, big d floor thumper.”

TRACK #2:

Allright (Just A tribute) - Dam Swindle

“The third drop on this track is proper groovy, this takes me back to Lost Paradise 2023, Ewan Mcvicar dropped this bomb in his set and I was in the thick of it with my mate who was dressed as a literal baby, so this song makes me laugh!”

TRACK #3:

Nutralize - Gaskin

“Seriously one of my favourite producers, I could fill this whole playlist with his songs at the moment. This track is proper naughty, it progresses so well.”

TRACK #4:

Dance N Move - Dart, Kyle Starkey

“This track is a guaranteed anthem, the tempo of this track is unmatched, for sure one of the funnest tracks to play live. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when these lads made this track, I bet it was so fun to make.”

TRACK #5:

Wings (I Won’t Let You Down) - Arman Van Helden x Karen Harding

“A real classic track here, the vocals and lyrics in this are impossible to not sing along. Whatever Arman touches turns to gold, I love revisiting his stuff. I had Arman on repeat for the majority of summer, which reminds me of good times.”

TRACK #6:

Are U Ready - Papa Nugs

“This track needs no explanation as to why it’s in here. Such high energy and an insane acid synth line running through it. I always enjoy listening to proggy sounds and fun tunes like this.”

TRACK #7:

Move Your Body - Isgwan

“A really big track this one, I’ve opened up many a sets with this bomb. The build up to the first drop is very left of field and some of the sounds that Isgwan incorporates into this track are so unique. Big fan“

TRACK #8:

Boom Boom Boom (Edit) - DAVYROE

“Shameless act adding my own track in here, but it reminds me of being on my debut Australian tour, which was a huge milestone for me. When I made this song, it was purely designed to be a dance floor tool, and the first time I played it live, it worked, everybody was singing the hook.”

LISTEN HERE

TRACK #9:

Club Trax - Entasia

“I really rate this song. I’m such a fan of the call and response between the synth and the bass in the hook. The tune has such great space and goes down hard on dancefloors.”

TRACK #10:

Never the same - Loods

“To wrap up this playlist I have chosen a song that has such an emotive feel to it. I got the chance to see Loods play at Liberty Hall for the SCDD gig in Sydney, this track definitely takes me back to that moment.”

…and to that pretty standard can be quoted saying “WOW, ABSOLUTELY CRACKING?” in regards to the above track ‘pickering’.

pretty standard: “Tell us about one or two of these tracks. Why do they stand out to you?”

I have to tell the story about being in the mixer with my mate Dylan for Ewan Mcvicar’s set at Lost Paradise 2023. I visited the festival with a pretty large crew and a few of the lads had to do the right thing and stick with their girlfriends and watch Jungle Giants but Dylan and I couldn’t do it, we had to launch it in Ewan Mcvicar. Ewan’s set for me was top 3 of the festival, such an all time selector. Listening back to “Allright” reminds me of being in the thick of it with Dylan who was literally dressed as a man sized baby, I will for sure never forget that set nor the image of Dylan dressed as a bub.

pretty standard: “Lastly, do you have any new projects coming out soon?”

“This winter I will be heading over to the UK to play shows overseas for the European summer, I will be releasing more details on those in the coming months. In terms of music, I was recently lucky enough to have two of my unreleased tracks be played at Pitch Music and Arts Festival by my friend Brent Honey, and from this, I have had quite a few approaches to have these tracks signed. So keep your eye out for those! I have been putting away a few ID’s, so I am ready to go on a run of releases.”
